Naval Station Ingleside - ALTA Survey & GIS Analysis

Ingleside, Texas
  • Scope of Work: As part of the Department of Defense’s Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), Navy Station Ingleside, Texas was closed in April of 2010. Located on the northern shore of Corpus Christi Bay, the site of the former Mine Warfare Base is strategically located to serve as a deep water port for offshore drilling services.

  • Principal Elements and Special Features: Frontier Surveying was contracted to complete an ALTA survey of the 800 acre facility. Frontier mined existing GIS data of the Naval Base from the US Navy that was collected prior to it’s closure. Much of this data was uploaded to mobile GIS devices and used to assist field crews in completing a detailed, comprehensive boundary survey. Field teams rapidly and accurately mapped and attributed the facilities dense infrastructure including buildings, roads and all above-ground improvements. Hydrographic surveys were completed along the bulkhead which fronts the intercostal waterway. Frontier calculated the volume of dredge material needed to deepen the site in order to accommodate deep-draft ships. The information collected in the field was ported to GIS databases. Frontier makes the GIS available to the client via a secure, cloud-based web portal. It is being used as a planning and asset management tool and is maintained by Frontier.

  • Relevance: This project illustrates the capabilities that Frontier has to quickly collect voluminous amounts of surface and sub-surface data, aggregate and analyze that data and to make it available to the client via secure, web-based GIS applications.
